Against a backdrop of ever-increasing accounting regulation, how reliable are company accounts really? Using examples from published financial statements, forensic accountant Luke Steadman of Alvarez & Marsal's Disputes and Investigations team, will demonstrate how companies use legitimate and illegitimate techniques to present the picture that they want us to see.

Luke will also explore the taxonomy of techniques used to inflate or hide value including:

  • Examples of changing the definition of “sales”
  • Common side arrangements with customers or suppliers
  • Using related party to disguise remuneration
  • Redefining “assets”; and
  • Hiding (or inflating) liabilities.

There will be the opportunity to network over drinks after the presentation.

There is no charge to attend this event. Please forward this invite on to any colleagues who you think may be interested.
