Investment finance is critical to most small and medium sized businesses with ambitions to grow.
Our session will be led by Andrew Nelson, Investment Director at CBPE Capital, one of the UK's leading mid market private equity firms and John Notman-Watt, the former chief executive of Stewart Group, one of CBPE Capital's hugely successful investments. They will provide an insight into how private investment works in practice, the key factors to consider when evaluating potential investment and the ingredients required to drive growth once the investment is made.
This seminar has already attracted attendees from a range of industries, including financial and professional services, manufacturing and construction as well as the creative sector.
Andrew Nelson, Investment Director at CBPE Capital
Andrew is an Investment Director at CBPE Capital, a leading UK mid-market Private Equity investor. CBPE has been backing UK businesses valued at up to £150m since 1984, and is currently investing from its £405m Fund VIII.
He began his career with PwC, where he qualified as a chartered accountant, working in the Corporate Finance Listings Team. Between 2002-04 he was seconded to the DTI where he advised the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry on the structuring and negotiation of Government financial support.
Since joining CBPE in 2005, Andrew has successfully invested in a range of businesses operating across a number of sectors, including Business Services, Leisure, Pharmaceuticals and Insurance.
John Notman-Watt, former Chief Executive of Stewart Group
John Notman-Watt led the MBI/MBO of Stewart Group with backing from Close Brothers Private Equity LLP (now CBPE Capital LLP) in 2006 and became Group MD on completion of the buy out. Stewart Group provides inspection, analysis, certification and engineering consultancy to the Mining and Exploration industry. John retired from this role at the end of 2011 after the sale of Stewart Group to a trade buyer. Prior to this, John delivered two acquisitions (aerospace and automotive testing) in the Nordic Region for Bodycote Testing Group (now Exova).
The bulk of John's career was spent at Intertek plc where he held various senior management positions across the world within the Oil, Gas, Chemical and Agricultural Inspection and Testing Division between 1986 and 2004. He has also acted as advisor to different Private Equity houses on transactions in the general Testing, Inspection and Certification sector.
