Big Society: Big idea? The impact of the Localism Bill on planning

The Localism Bill has now been published. Planning reform is a key component of the Government's "Big Society" initiative. Localism – the idea of decentralising power – is the new agenda. Our conference considers the Bill in the broader context of the Big Society. After an overview by our keynote speaker, CLG Minister Bob Neill, the conference will explore a number of specific issues including the abolition of regional spatial strategies and the introduction of a tax increment financing mechanism. The Bill's impact on major infrastructure projects will be explored along with an analysis of what the IPC has been up to. The conference will conclude with a debate on planning and the Big Society, in which you can share your views with MPs with sharply differing perspectives – a fun and informative way to end the day.
