London Land Commission Launched

The London Land Commission was officially launched on 13 July 2015 by Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Housing Minister Brandon Lewis. The Commission was originally announced by the Mayor and Chancellor George Osborne in February this year as part of the long-term economic plan for London. It has been established as part of a coordinated effort between City Hall, government and boroughs to free up surplus public land in London to build at least 400,000 homes in the city by 2025.

Brownfield Housing Zones Prospectus Published

Following publication by the Mayor of London in June 2014 of the prospectus relating to the establishment of 20 housing zones (HZs) across London, the government has now published its own prospectus in relation to the launch of a further 10 HZs on brownfield sites outside London. (BHZs) The government is providing further capital investment funding of £200m to support the 10 BHZs, which is in addition to the funding that has already been made available by central government to support the 20 HZs in London.

Private Rented Sector Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard Regulations Consultation Launched

On 22 July 2014 the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) issued two consultation papers on the implementation of the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) regulations for the domestic and non-domestic private rented sectors.
