Facebook flirter banned

A private school music teacher has been banned from teaching for at least four years for flirting with a 15 year old student on Facebook. In May 2012, the teacher (who really is called Mr Horn and was then aged 23) contacted Pupil A via Facebook. At the time, she was on study leave preparing for her GCSE examinations. Horn had taught her and also knew her prior to joining the school through a community group. Indeed when he joined the School he took safeguarding advice and deleted her from Facebook.

Not so fast Michael...

The Department for Education has today issued the report of the School Teachers' Review Body and its response. I set out below a brief note of the changes but the good news is that the Review Body has resisted some of the more radical proposals floated by the DfE in its evidence to the Review Body. From my own discussions with Heads, it was clear that the preference was for stability and not more "flexibility".

Grievance Resolution Procedure

To change the emphasis of grievances from blame to resolution I recommend to school clients that Schools have a formal document available for use by staff to initiate grievances. Attached is a template form for use in independent schools, maintained schools and in single academy trusts.
