New lap dancing club 'may need to reapply for licence'
Mon 11 Jan 2010
A lap dancing venue that opened last week may soon need to reapply for its licence, a local authority has warned.
South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) recently approved an application to turn Vienna's Cafe Bar in Grantham into a lap dancing club called Secrets.
The authority did not accept the objections it received, largely because they were based on moral grounds rather than concerns about a possible public nuisance, safety issues or crime and disorder.
However, the government is currently considering legislation that could hand more power to local communities when a lap dancing licence is being considered.
Tracey Blackwell, acting strategic director at SKDC, has therefore advised lap dancing venues such as Secrets that it may need to reapply for its licence if the new law comes into place.
