£85m to be spent on Welsh railway stations

About £85 million is to be spent on improving railway stations in Wales over the next four years, officials have confirmed.
According to Chris Rayner of Network Rail, stations are the "shop front" of the railway system, but have been ignored for a long time.
Money is therefore being put towards a series of improvements, he stated, including enhanced security, amenities and booking offices.
Mr Rayner was speaking as plans for a revamped Swansea railway station were unveiled to the public.
He said the station will serve as a "catalyst for further growth in rail usage" in Swansea and help to provide a "much better environment" for the city.
More than 1.6 million train passengers currently pass through Swansea railway station every year.
Ian Bullock, customer services director at Arriva Trains Wales, said he believes the upcoming revamp will make the facility "fit for the 21st century".
This comes after the government confirmed that £50 million is to be spent on improving ten railway stations in England, including Barking, Luton, Stockport and Manchester Victoria.
