£15m regeneration project approved

A regeneration project in Hampshire worth £15 million has been given the go-ahead by local authorities.
Southampton City Council granted permission to carry out the improvements to Hinkler Parade in the Thornhill area.
The plans include demolishing existing commercial properties and flats and replacing them with new buildings, including a community centre.
Councillor Phil Williams, cabinet member for housing and local services, has welcomed the approval of planning permission, describing it as an "important milestone".
He said estate regeneration is a key part of the council's commitment to improving the quality of life in the area.
Councillor Williams added that the high-quality homes would help to put pride back into the community and give families a place where they will want to live, both now and in the future.
The planning application was submitted to Southampton City Council in December 2009.
Barratt Homes, in partnership with First Wessex, has been appointed to lead the development.
Roger Fitton, a partner at Winckworth Sherwood Solicitors, commented: "Winckworth Sherwood acts for Barratt in London where, despite the recession, they have continued progressing planning applications and building on all contracted sites.
"The commitment to Southampton is further evidence of the worth of the Barratt covenant."
