Conservatives criticise government's social housing policy

The government's social housing policy has come under fire from the Conservative Party.
According to shadow housing minister Grant Shapps, £183 million was due to be reallocated from existing projects towards the creation of 110,000 new homes.
However, Mr Shapps said £25 million of this money has yet to be identified, which means there is a "black hole" in the heart of one of the government's main policies.
He accused prime minister Gordon Brown of being guilty of a "financial sleight of hand" comparable to that seen during the 10p tax "scandal".
Mr Shapps warned that the government could be tempted to meet the financial shortfall by increasing its borrowing.
This, he stated, would be "grossly irresponsible" and against the long-term needs of the country.
The Conservative Party's own housing policies were recently criticised by the National Housing Federation, which said its plans to scrap Section 106 agreements could threaten the delivery of affordable homes in Britain.
