Government invests in Blackpool regeneration

Nearly £40 million is to be invested in the redevelopment of two of Blackpool's biggest attractions.
Blackpool Council will use the money to purchase and upgrade the iconic tower and the Winter Gardens complex.
It is hoped this will help stimulate the tourist sector in the area, which is a major contributor to the local economy, and lead to wider regeneration projects being implemented.
According to communities and business minister Rosie Winterton, this will help to secure these "historic" buildings and secure their world-class status for many years to come.
She said the investment forms part of a "concerted" effort from the government to enable seaside towns to thrive.
Ms Winterton added that government investment is already helping to transform the British coastline by going towards improving housing, attracting new business and creating jobs.
Regional minister Phil Woollas also welcomed the announcement, describing it as "fantastic news" for the town and the wider region.
This comes shortly after the government confirmed that about £5 million will go towards revamping seaside towns such as Great Yarmouth and Minehead.
Robert Botkai, a partner at Winckworth Sherwood Solicitors, commented: "The developers of the Winter Gardens will need to consider carefully its licensing requirements which will have changed since it opened to the public in 1878.
"They should seek early advice from a licensing solicitor to ensure that the potential of this venue may be maximised."
