More young people going to university

The government has reported an increase in the university participation rate among young people.
According to the latest official figures, the participation rate was 43 per cent in 2007/08, but this went up to 45 per cent last year.
Higher education minister David Lammy welcomed the findings, but stated that the government will not be complacent in its efforts to attract students from all backgrounds.
He said this is why it has announced funding for an additional 20,000 undergraduate places next year in areas which are deemed an economic priority.
Business secretary Lord Mandelson added that this is a positive step towards the government's aim to get half of all 18 to 30-year olds to study in university.
He said this aspiration is important because skilled graduates are needed to drive innovation and help to stimulate the UK's economic recovery.
Lord Mandelson also noted that a degree gained in Britain can be a "great investment" for any individual.
The findings have been welcomed by the University and College Union, which said the government should be proud of its efforts to get more people into university.
