Regeneration boss worried about future of government investment

An official involved in the regeneration of Lancashire has expressed concerns about the possibility of state funding being reduced.
Dennis Mendoros, the chair of Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, told local radio station The Bee that the arrival of the new government could lead to a cut in the amount of public money going into the region.
He called on the government to make better use of the money it has available in order to press ahead with regeneration projects while it tries to reduce the country's budget deficit.
However, Mr Mendoras acknowledged that it is too early to tell at this stage whether funding for regeneration projects in Lancashire will be reduced.
Chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne unveiled plans to reduce public spending by more than £6 billion earlier this week.
However, he said the cuts have been found by reducing wasteful spending in the public sector, so that frontline services can be protected.
Roger Fitton, a partner at Winckworth Sherwood Solicitors, commented: "Public investment will be required to provide the volume of affordable homes.
"It might be useful to undertake an audit of those that have received public investment to see who has used it most efficiently as a guide to future investment."
