Government told not to 'gut' Crossrail project

Boris Johnson has urged the government to avoid "gutting" the Crossrail project in London.
The planned infrastructure improvements are widely expected to be affected by the ongoing cuts in public spending, which are designed to tackle the UK's budget deficit.
However, the Mayor of London believes the Crossrail project should be implemented in full, as it is "vital" to the UK capital, reports the London Evening Standard.
Mr Johnson said London needs Crossrail "lock, stock and barrel", with all the planned stations in place.
He added that authorities in the city will work hard to identify any possible efficiency savings in order to prevent the project being scaled back.
