Council considers GBP 10,000 lap dancing licence

Lap dancing establishments in one part of Berkshire will be required to pay GBP 10,000 for a licence under a local authority's plans.
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is hiking up the prices in an attempt to deter people from opening lap dancing venues in the area.
Alan Barwise, head of licensing at the authority, acknowledged that the move will not be popular with owners of clubs that want a sexual entertainment licence.
However, he told the Maidenhead Advertiser that the move will help to maintain standards in the area.
Mr Barwise also stated that the council would rather the borough has just "one or two" lap dancing establishments rather than "too many".
Councillor Sayonara Luxton added that a GBP 10,000 licence fee would help the authority to meet the costs of ensuring that lap dancing venues comply with the law.
Under the new laws which came into force earlier this year, lap dancing venues are now classified as sex establishments, which means they will have to reapply for their licence in order to stage the activity.
Robert Botkai, a partner at Winckworth Sherwood Solicitors, commented: "Club owners should be taking advice to ensure that they secure a lap dancing licence. Those who wish to object to an existing lap dancing club or a new venue should also be taking advice."
