Winckworth Sherwood continues to boost local government practice with new partner hire

Mon 26 Jul 2010

Law firm Winckworth Sherwood is pleased to announce the appointment of partner Joanna Bussell who joins the firm on 26th July 2010. Joanna joins from LG, and her appointment follows that of consultant Simon Randall who joined the firm in May.

Winckworth Sherwood now has over 20 partners and over 50 lawyers and legal staff advising on local government issues involving major outsourcing, regeneration, infrastructure and social housing projects to procurement, licensing, employment, planning, environment, public transport and education.

Joanna Bussell specialises in public/private sector projects and in particular public sector outsourcing. Joanna's focus is on developing innovative partnerships between the public, private and voluntary sector to improve public sector service delivery.

Joanna is widely acknowledged as one of the UK's leading experts in leisure outsourcing projects and is described in the legal directories as "the best in the business" and "exceptionally bright, energetic and positive". She has particular expertise in establishing social enterprises or not for profit organisations to work in partnership with local authorities in the management of leisure centres, libraries, museums and theatres and advises on management contracts with private sector leisure operators. She is a leading advisor on the Business Improvements District (BID) initiative and was retained by the former Office of Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) to advise on the introduction of the scheme into the UK. Her hire will complement Winckworth Sherwood's extensive PPP experience.

Richard Tinham, Commercial Partner at Winckworth Sherwood said: "We are delighted that Joanna has now joined the team. Her knowledge, experience and insight will be available to our local government clients to support them in developing public/private partnerships, regeneration, procurement and outsourcing projects".

Joanna Bussell added: "I am delighted to be helping Winckworth Sherwood expand its services to local government and look forward to making a contribution to the fast growing team ".
