Winckworth Sherwood hosts discussion with Communities Minister
Thu 09 Sep 2010
The City of London Law Society's (CLLS) Planning and Environmental Law Committee met with Communities Minister Bob Neill MP on Tuesday 7 September at a luncheon debate hosted by law firm Winckworth Sherwood.
Bob Neill provided members of the Committee with an overview of changes in approach to the planning regime in England and an insight into the Decentralisation and Localism Bill, which will be published towards the end of November.
In what Bob Neill characterised as a “flagship” piece of legislation, the Bill will have far-reaching implications on planning policy and procedure.
A detailed framework of guidance for planning and property professionals is being developed in parallel with the Bill and, as Bob Neill explained, he is looking to planning experts and the property industry sector to engage with him and his department. Interested parties were urged to get involved now rather than waiting until November and the Bill’s publication.
Sara Hanrahan, head of planning at Winckworth Sherwood and a member of the (CLLS) Committee, said: “We are delighted with the open dialogue created by Bob Neill. It was a very useful and broad-ranging discussion and the Committee welcomed the opportunity to help shape the Bill and will be providing input on the forthcoming guidance.”
