Charity Law Consolidation

Fri 11 Sep 2009

The Government has today released a public consultation document relating to the draft Charities Consolidation Bill. The main purpose of this consolidation will be to bring together the provisions of the Recreational Charities Act 1958, the Charities Act 2003 and most of the Charities Act 2006 into a single, new Charities Act.

The consolidation of the statutory charity framework was recommended in Parliament in 2004. The Law Commission subsequently undertook a consolidation of charity law, resulting in the draft Bill.

As a consolidation Bill, the proposed legislation contains no substantial changes in policy, though it is in a restructured and modernised format.

Responses to the consultation document are due by 4 December 2009.
