London First looks to 'next generation of transport improvements'

A new rail link could be built in London under plans currently being considered by the city's business community.
According to London First, it is necessary to start planning the "next generation" of improvements to the region's transport infrastructure as soon as possible.
Jo Valentine, chief executive of the group, said this is because the quality of London's transport network will be critical to the city's ability to "attract talent and investment from around the world".
Among the options currently being considered by a London First working group is a second Crossrail network.
The organisation believes that this could help to ease congestion on the city's transport network at peak times, as a boost to commuting capacity will be "much needed" over the next decade.
Andrew Adonis, transport secretary under the previous Labour government, is chairing the working group.
Richard Bull, solicitor in Winckworth Sherwood's rail unit, commented: "Crossrail 2 could provide much-needed congestion relief at Euston tube station.
"There is a concern that time savings on a high speed route from Manchester to London could be lost if passengers encounter long queues at Euston.
"Lord Adonis, a rail enthusiast, has identified a need for complementary planning to support high speed. An interim set of recommendations is expected early next year."
