Government plans to revise licensing laws

New proposals from the government regarding licences for temporary events could save businesses and local councils money, it has been claimed.
A range of measures unveiled by licensing minister Gerry Sutcliffe include plans to make it easier for people to obtain events permits at short notice and would remove the requirement to republish Licensing Policy Statements every three years.
It is thought that by giving police the power to administer late Temporary Event Notices (TENs), authorities could save resources, while licensees would avoid having to cancel events if they need to change venues at short notice and cannot get permission.
Mr Sutcliffe said the new plans could save a collective £24 million a year and insisted that the government is determined to remove red tape for those organising temporary events.
