Residents oppose lap dancing venue application

Plans to open a lap dancing venue in Old Market, Bristol have been met with opposition from people in the area.
Many locals believe the opening of a lap dancing club on West Street could have a negative effect on the community and are therefore organising a petition.
One resident, Trish Davidson, told the Evening Post that lap dancing venues should be made illegal, as the sex industry causes women to suffer.
Janet Sheek, from the Old Market Community Association, added that lots of families live in the area, which means parents would have to explain what goes on inside the building to their children.
Ms Sheek also told BBC Radio Bristol she is concerned about the sort of people the proposed lap dancing club would attract.
She said she believes there is a symbiotic relationship between legal sex industry businesses and those that work outside the law.
The proposed lap dancing club would be opened in a disused music shop.
Robert Botkai, a partner at Winckworth Sherwood, commented: "Read our briefings for updates on the changes to the law relating to lap dancing."
