Licensing Act 2003 : August 2006 Update

The Licensing Act 2003 (‘the Act’) came into force on 24 November 2005. After a chaotic conversion process, the new regime has settled down and the strengths and weaknesses in the Act have become apparent. There remain confusion and grey areas and recent guidance from the Government (‘the Guidance’) has not significantly helped in this regard.

Sales of Alcohol to Under Age Persons - Three Strikes and You’re Out!

The Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act') has now been partly enacted. This introduces new offences under the Licensing Act 2003 ('the 2003 Act'). The provisions which relate to under age sales come into force on 6 April 2007.

Review of Clergy Terms of Service : A Brief Introduction

Clergy conditions of service have been underreview since the Department of Trade and Industry initiated its discussion of “a-typical workers” in 2002. The Archbishops’ Council’s Review Group (chaired by Professor David McClean) issued its first report in 2004 (GS 1527), which was widely discussed in dioceses.
