Winckworth Sherwood advise Barratt on £100m Cannon Wharf scheme

Wed 30 Jan 2013

Law firm Winckworth Sherwood is advising the UK’s largest housebuilder, Barratt, on the acquisition of Cannon Wharf, a major redevelopment site in Surrey Quays in London’s Docklands.  The site will see the construction of 679 homes, including 117 affordable homes, together with 70,193 sq ft of retail and commercial space.

The development scheme will see the construction of nine housing blocks, including two towers 20 and 23 storeys high, an on-site nursery together with outside play-space and residents garden.  Cannon Wharf is part of a continued program by Lewisham Borough Council to regenerate the area, linking it to landscaping of the old Surrey Canal.

Winckworth Sherwood advised Barratt on all legal matters associated with the acquisition of the site including planning and corporate law.

Roger Fitton, Managing Partner and Head of the Development and Regeneration team at Winckworth Sherwood said: “The acquisition of Cannon Wharf marks a milestone in the continued regeneration of Surrey Quays.  It is the latest in a number of transactions where we have advised Barratt in London, helping them to become one of the Capital’s leading housebuilders.”

The Winckworth Sherwood team was lead by Partner Roger Fitton with support from Solicitor Elizabeth Gabriel.  Partner Eleanor Kilminster provided construction law advice, Partner Karen Cooksley provided planning law advice and Partner Richard Tinham provided corporate advice.

Winckworth Sherwood is acting for Barratt in connection to the development of the 8.25 acre Fulham Wharf and the prime two acre site at Aldgate East.
