Law firm Winckworth Sherwood has strengthened its planning team with the appointment of senior Associate Jo Hannah.
Jo Hannah joins Winckworth Sherwood from DWF, where she was an Associate in its Planning Law team. She has previously worked with Karen Cooksley and Colette McCormack, partners in Winckworth Sherwood’s planning team, at Bevan Brittan and Masons (now Pinsent Masons). She was also Head of the Planning and Technical Legal Team at Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council.
She will be working nationally but based in Manchester, as the Winckworth Sherwood team there moves to larger central Manchester offices.
Winckworth Sherwood focuses its planning service around senior lawyers who have the experience to resolve clients’ issues with the ever-increasing complexities and frustrations of the planning system, rather than just on process. Jo Hannah’s appointment gives further strength in depth. She has recently been advising St Modwens on a major regeneration scheme at Great Homer Street in Liverpool, and advising on a mixed-use residential and leisure scheme at the John Smith stadium in Huddersfield.
Colette McCormack, who leads Winckworth Sherwood’s Planning team in Manchester, said: “I have known and worked alongside Jo for many years. She is a terrifically experienced planning lawyer. We are thrilled to have her rejoin the team and look forward to the contribution she will bring.”
Commenting on her appointment, Jo Hannah said: “Winckworth Sherwood’s Planning team is recognized as one of the strongest in the UK. It has worked on some the country’s largest and highest profile schemes and has an enviable client base. I am delighted to be rejoining the team.”
Winckworth Sherwood’s Manchester Planning team is now at 111 Piccadilly, Manchester, M1 2HY, the telephone number for which is 0161 638 0940.
Karen Cooksley, Partner and Head of Planning at Winckworth Sherwood, adds: “Our planning team continues to go from strength to strength. We continue to work with some of the country’s largest residential and mixed-use developers, commercial developers and local authorities. The demand for really effective planning law services continues to expand and we delighted to welcome Jo back to the team.”
Winckworth Sherwood is currently advising on many of the largest and most complex redevelopment schemes in the country.
In London, the team has been at the heart of the Vauxhall, Battersea and Nine Elms regeneration scheme, advising on 14 separate schemes acting for residential developers, the London Borough of Wandsworth, local authorities, transport and infrastructure providers on schemes such as Battersea Power Station, One Nine Elms, New Covent Garden Market, St George Wharf and the US Embassy. The team is advising Luton Borough Council on its challenge to Central Bedfordshire around the duty to co-operate. In the North West the team is advising Peel Holdings on the Liverpool Waters scheme and on its strategy for dealing with the Community Infrastructure Levy.
