Jane Wakeham

After practicing at the common law bar for 5 years, Jane spent 14 years in industry. Her experience of managing a busy factory provided her with an extensive and practical knowledge of employment, environmental and health and safety issues, including those surrounding the use of hazardous chemicals. Since joining Winckworth Sherwood, Jane has been involved in a variety of contentious and non-contentious work, mainly on behalf of public bodies, including advice on judicial review. She joined the Parliamentary and Planning team in 2006 and has since assisted on a range of infrastructure, and other, projects for public and private bodies.
Recent experience
- Jane has recently been involved on applications for Transport and Works Act Orders to authorise new railway infrastructure, including promotions on behalf of Network Rail Infrastructure Limited.
- She also assisted on the successful promotion of The South Devon Railway Order 2009 to authorise the sale of the railway, give statutory authority for the maintenance of existing lengths of railway and to authorise new railway infrastructure.
- During the promotion of the Crossrail Bill, Jane was involved in advising the Bill team, handling negotiations with petitioners against the Bill and drafting numerous undertakings and agreements. Since Royal Assent, she has been involved in various aspects of the implementation of the Act, including preparation of deeds on behalf of the nominated undertaker.
- Jane assisted with the objection of the Royal Mail Group Limited and Post Office Limited to the proposed Nottingham Express Transit System Order, requiring measures to safeguard their undertakings.
- Jane assisted in the preparation of a proposed Harbour Revision Order for the Harwich Haven Authority and on questions concerning the implementation of the London Gateway Port Harbour Empowerment Order 2008.
