Joanne Hannah

Position: Senior Associate

Jo works in Environmental Planning and advises on planning, highways, CPO and Town and Village Green matters. She has a wealth of experience of working for the Public and the Private Sector. Before joining private practice, she was Head of the Planning and Technical Legal Team at Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council.

Recent experience

  • Blackpool City Council in the drafting and negotiation of a Deed of Variation to a complex S106 agreement to provide, amongst other things, viability assessments for the provision of affordable housing at different stages of a large residential development for nearly 600 houses
  • Carlisle Council and Cornwall Council in the drafting and negotiation of S106 agreements
  • an Acquiring Authority in defending a claim in the Lands Tribunal from a major retailer arising out of a CPO of retail premises in a district shopping centre. The case involving complex issues surrounding the assessment of the retailer's loss of profits and the level of compensation payable due to disturbance following its relocation to an alternative unit within a new shopping centre
  • Advising St Modwen, who have a development agreement with Liverpool City Council, on the development of a new district centre in a major regeneration area in Liverpool to provide a new superstore, petrol filling station, a transport hub, retails units, open and covered markets, residential development, leisure development and industrial units. Jo advised on the planning strategy and an s73 application to amend conditions
  • on the outline planning permission to allow changes to the masterplan and drafted the associated S106 agreements. Jo also advised on the first reserved matters application for phase 1 and advised on, prepared and served and the first General Vesting Declaration following the CPO of land required for phase 1 of the development. She advised on the necessary road closures and appropriations
