Les has over 20 years' commercial and IP experience and is admitted to practice in Ireland and Australia as well as England and Wales, where he is triple qualified as a Solicitor, Barrister and Chartered Trade Mark Attorney. 

Les has a broad practice covering corporate and commercial transactions, brands, defamation, dispute resolution, franchising and licensing, intellectual property rights, outsourcing, privacy and data protection, trade secrets, regulatory and administrative law.

  • Fashion, artistic and industrial designs

In addition to training in law, Les completed postgraduate studies in life sciences (Cambridge) and intellectual property law (Harvard and Oxford).  He contributes to trade publications, speaks at business events, is a visiting lecturer in intellectual property law at the University of Derby and a moot judge for the annual University of Oxford International IP Moot.

Recent experience

  • Advising Barclays PLC on transitional IT services and trade mark licence arrangements 
  • Negotiating IT outsourcing arrangements for the UK’s largest friendly society
  • Advising Studio Canal on the intellectual property aspects of its acquisition of the media rights in the Paddington Bear literary estate
  • Advising Obvious Engineering on IP, data and IT aspects of its acquisition by Snap
  • Representing Belron in trade mark proceedings before the Court of Justice of the EU: Junited Autoglas Deutchland V OHMI – Belron [2014] T-297/13 (cited by the UK Supreme Court in the NOW case: Starbucks (HK) V BSkyB Group [2015] FSR 29)
