Mark leads the Enfranchisement team dealing with residential leaseholder’s rights including those of Freehold Enfranchisement, Lease Extension and the Right to Manage (Leasehold Reform Housing and Urban Development Act 1993 as amended) and the Right of First Refusal (Landlord and Tenant Act 1987).

Mark’s clients include individual flat owners seeking to exercise their rights ie to extend the lease of their flat, groups of flat owners looking to collectively Enfranchise or exercise the Right to Manage and landlords dealing with the same issues as well as related property areas including property (residential and commercial) sales and purchases and commercial leases.  He also has a background of assisting developers in their dealings such as site assembly, financing, sub-sales and back-to-back transactions.

Recent experience

- Acting for a local authority with regard to the proposed redevelopment of one of its sites involving the sale of part of the estate for residential purposes in consideration for the buyer undertaking the redevelopment of the balance of the estate for Local Authority's commercial purposes.

- Acting for a local group of flat owners in the Enfranchisement of their block.

- Acting for the landlord in response to a Right to Manage notice.

- Acting for a SME regarding the assignment of its lease of commercial premises.

- Acting for a developer in the sale off of leasehold units in a new development.

- Acting for a group of flat owners in the exercise of their Right to Manage.

- Acting for an investor client holding a number of flats in a block seeking to Enfranchise and analysing the complications of factors such as a caretaker flat held under an intermediate leasehold interest and the ability ultimately to obtain vacant possession and the impact of these factors on the premium payable.

Personal interests

Mark is a keen cyclist having completed several major road cycling events such as the E’tap de Tour (an amateur stage of the Tour de France), a stage of the Tour of Britain, a charity ride through the Alps in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind taking in major alpine passes such as the Col Du Galibier, Col De La Croix De Fer and L’Alpe D’Huez.
